To this day, breast augmentation remains the most requested and practiced cosmetic surgery operation in the world, with almost 1,800,000 procedures performed.
In Tunisia, this procedure is also very popular, thanks to the very attractive prices and the quality of the surgeons available in the country. But when it comes to opting for a breast augmentation procedure, you have to ask yourself the right questions: am I an ideal candidate for this procedure? What type of breast prosthesis should I choose? What volume is right for me?
To help you answer these questions, we invite you to read this article.
Am I a good candidate for a breast implant?
Before you can request this procedure, you must first have confirmation that you are eligible for breast implant procedure. If you have small breasts, if you feel that your breasts look a little flat, or if you have had your breast removed due to cancer, then you may want to consider breast augmentation. There are a number of reasons why you might want to have breast augmentation:
It is during the first consultation with the surgeon that various elements will be evaluated in order to make your breast augmentation a success, which are: your morphology, the size and shape of the breast implants, the type of scars, the positioning of the prostheses in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, etc.
The aim of any breast augmentation is to give the breast better curves and a beautiful look.
The new breast should also look as natural as possible and feel good.
As with any other procedure, you will need to prepare a full medical file, including your medical check-up, a mammogram and blood tests.
You should not have any contraindications to breast implant surgery, such as pathology in the area to be operated, or breast cancer. You cannot have this procedure if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The size of the breast implants that will be inserted must be chosen in such a way that the result looks natural and consistent with your figure.
Thus, various points will be taken into consideration before the choice of the size of the implants, in particular: your morphology, the initial size of your breast, the elasticity of your skin…
By taking into account these parameters, and by evaluating your needs and the result you wish to achieve, the surgeon will be able to suggest the sizes of prostheses that will suit you best.
The surgeon will also be able to show you some photos that will give you an idea of the final result.
Generally, the surgeon will suggest two different forms of prostheses: round or anatomical. Here again, in addition to your personal preferences, the choice will be based on different criteria, such as the shape of the breasts. Indeed, it should be known that the original shape of the breast will condition the choice of the implant to be put, it is thus not so much the chosen implant which will give the shape of the breast.
Round breast implants: are more used in the context of an aesthetic augmentation, this shape will give the breast a nice curved look. In addition, a round prosthesis has the advantage of being able to be turned inside the breast without any complications.
Anatomical breast implants: have a “teardrop” appearance, with a thinner side and a more rounded side. This type of implant is considered for reconstruction augmentation, or for patients with insufficient breast tissue.
Breast lipofilling, or breast lipostructure, is an alternative for patients who wish to increase the volume of their breasts without resorting to implants.
This procedure consists of taking fat from a part of the patient’s body (thighs, hips, stomach, etc.). This fat is then treated and filtered and can be reinjected into the same patient’s breasts.
This technique has a number of advantages: the result is natural, no foreign bodies are used for the augmentation, and there is no risk of rejection, as your own fat is used.
This technique is ideal if you want to gain one or two cup sizes, but if you want a more distinct augmentation, you will have to turn to prostheses. You should also be aware that with this procedure, some of the injected fat may be absorbed by the body.
Most specialists encourage patients to take the time to assess their desires and needs, and especially to be honest with themselves, but also to be realistic about their expectations.
When you seriously decide to undergo this procedure, you will of course be accompanied and advised by your surgeon, but you must also have a clear idea of what you want so that you are not disappointed with the result.
You can also talk to someone you trust or your partner about your desire to have this procedure done, as this may help you to sort out your ideas. But you must be well prepared mentally, you must expect that the shape of your silhouette will undergo changes, and you must have the necessary patience to see the final result after a few months.
