A body-lift surgery, also known as lipectomy, reshapes and contours the figure by eliminating fatty tissues and sagging skin situated in such areas of the body as the abdomen, the buttocks and the external thighs.
The procedure is commonly associated with cruroplasty,
thigh-lift surgery (corrects accumulated fat and excess skin on the inner thighs) and/or liposuction of the inner knees.
Body-lift surgery aims at reconstructing the body and redrawing its contours. It is generally performed after substantial weight loss; which culminates in terrible loss of skin elasticity and the accumulation of stubborn fatty deposits in various areas of the body. Other origins of loss in skin elasticity may be due to aging, or simply genetic factors.
How is body-lift surgery performed?
Body lifting is a customized surgery, which proceeds depending on treated areas of the body; the latter are defined according to the patient’s needs and desired outcome, and the surgeon’s recommendation.
The procedure can include several interventions at once; like liposuction of fatty pockets in the abdomen, the thighs, the knees, and so on.
Fat aspirated by
liposuction may be re-used for fat grafting in order to fill up uneven surfaces of the body or to augment the size of other areas like the breasts (
breast lipofilling), the buttocks (
brazilian butt lift), or the calves. The aim of the surgery is to make good use of extracted fat by creating well-proportionate and balanced body features.
Lifting is the final phase and it generally concerns various areas of the body according to the patient’s overall morphology.
Body-lift surgery generally combines results of
abdominoplasty, external thigh-lift surgery, and an augmentation or reduction of the buttocks.
Excess skin from the abdomen to the back is entirely removed after tightening.
Results of body-lift surgery:
Body-lift surgery is also known as “circular belt lipectomy” as post-surgical scarring is similar to a belt in its shape and position. The scar is well-hidden with underwear and clothing, and it will be less prominent within a few months.
In spite of being immediately visible, the results of body-lift surgery are permanently accomplished after one or two years. Ex-patients of body-lift surgery have reported spectacular results; especially those suffering from serious body asymmetry or cutaneous deformations due to precedent procedures as
bariatric surgery or liposuction.
However, the patient must adopt a healthy lifestyle (through healthy diets and regular exercising) to maintain the results of body-lift surgery. In doing so, the patient will make sure that their body remains contoured and toned on the long-term run.
