The removal of the nose hump through
rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that eliminates an unpleasing bump on the nose. This specific procedure is highly demanded and performed worldwide. It simply aims at giving the nose a more symmetric and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
What are the causes of nose humps?
A nose hump is easily noticeable on the face; it somewhat ruins facial aesthetics. The latter bump may be natural (known as kyphosis) or caused by a shock or an accident.
The bump is located on the bony section of the nose –the upper part– which gives the nose an unaesthetic appearance. A salient bump may, in certain cases, cause difficulties in breathing.
Before surgery
Before undergoing the surgery, the patient may either demand a simple removal of the nasal bump, or request to undergo a full rhinoplasty, which includes the latter correction combined to nose reconstruction. For this, a complete medical check-up and a blood test have to be conducted.
Removing the nasal hump through osteotomy
The intervention aims at correcting the bony section of the nose in order to achieve a straight bone line. It consists of reconstructing the nose, and the procedure commences with an incision either inside the nostrils or at their base.
The surgeon will thereafter remodel the nose until they reach the desired bone line and shape. During the procedure, the surgeon will be as careful as possible not to damage the nose. Once remodelled, cartilage grafts will be placed to maintain the nose in place. Post-surgical scarring will be barely noticeable.
